2 Weeks of Hype!
As for the opponent for the Giants, it is some team that has not lost a game yet but recently has come back down to Earth with the Eagles, Ravens, Giants, Jags, and Chargers all giving them pretty good games, the Patriots. MVP Tom Brady has especially looked human-like in the game against the Chargers where he threw for 3 interceptions (side note: Cromartie is good). Laurence Maroney had one hell of a game rushing for over 120 yards and helping the Pats salvage a shakey passing game. Where has Randy Moss been lately? Wes Welker is looking like the number one option on most plays. I do give props to Philip Rivers for having surgery prior to the game and still giving all he had for San Diego in a gutsy performance. (A second side note: I hope the Dolphins noticed that Wes Welker and Chris Chambers had some pretty decent performances in this game). The whole LT thing really baffled me for the fact that he was able to start the game and was not on the injured list but was pulled after a series. It was reported that it was Norv Turner's decision and if this is indeed true, this just exemplifies another reason why he should not be a head coach.
Personally, Two week is WAY to much time between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. Now I know it all has to do with money, commercialization, and the media, but seriously if your team is not in the Super Bowl by Wednesday of the first week you can't even turn on Sportscenter for more than 3 minutes without hearing some back lifestory of the 3rd string Offensive lineman who walked on at some small college.
It did not even take a day before the first ridiculous storyline came out for this year's Super Bowl. I'm sure you all know that I am referring to the continuing coverage of Tom Brady and "BOOTGATE". (Incase you are living under a rock and haven't heard about this then peep this, http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid285859616/bclid294430730/bctid1386375873). It's really a shame when ESPN and all the media is stooping to this level and to treat Tom Brady like he is Britney Spears being carried away on a stretcher. Maybe I should just sit back and get a good laugh at all the ridiculous stories that come out during this two week period? By the way did you that Jerome Bettis is from Detroit?!
Also in response to the comment from the post on the NFC Conference Championship preview --
I did enjoy the matchup of Plax vs. AL-HA throughout the game with Burress doing some serious work. As a former Eagle, and not a very good one, I never understood the hype that Harris received for being so good because he got torched all game and it did end up being one of the key matchups of the game, although an uneven one in the end. Eli definitely had some really good performances these playoffs and once again it's a showdown between Brady and Manning (Eli). I am not to sure if the doubters will be silenced just yet for two reasons. (1) He plays in New York, just ask Randy Johnson, Jason Giambi, A-Rod, Tiki, Stephon Marbury, etc. etc. about the mental fatigue the city puts on you. No matter what he does it will most likely not be enough. (2) He is the younger brother of Peyton who has already won a super bowl now and been successful for years. Both Mannings will always be compared with each other especially in how they fare against Brady. If Eli pulls off the upset he will definitely have earned some of the doubters to be silenced, but who knows with New York. I guess you could say it's better that Eli is always under the microscope in NY because he could be Chad Pennington on the lowly Jets where no one really gives two hoots about them anymore. Appreciate the feedback (Don't forget to peep Certain Songs: a music blog <-- )

NFC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
NEW YORK GIANTS (12-6) V. GREEN BAY PACKERS (14-3)
INITIAL THOUGHT: With the temperature at gametime projecting to be about 0 degrees with a wind chill of -25 degrees, it could be an interesting game to watch and it is the way playoff football should be played.
SECOND THOUGHT: With how cold it is going to be, the game should be focused on the running games of Brandon Jacobs and Ryan Grant, but it would not surprise me if Brett Favre has another magical game and throws for a couple of touchdowns.
X-FACTOR: As mentioned earlier, the x-factors for each team will be the running backs, Jacobs and Grant. Whichever team can run the ball more effectively should be in a pretty good position to win this game. With Grant's performance last week and the size of Jacobs, I think both running backs should have strong games.
KEY MATCHUP: Eli Manning versus the secondary of the Packers. Which persona of Eli will show up for the game? Al Harris has elevated his game to be one of the best corners in the league and the matchup of Al-Ha and Plaxico Burress should also be something to watch.
PREDICTION: Packers - 31 Giants - 24
FINAL THOUGHT: I am still not a true believer in Tom Coughlin, but he has certainly earned himself a contract extention because of his improvements coaching and with the team. The Giants have just as good a chance to win this game, (even though I have countlessly written them off...my bad), but something about Favre getting another shot at the Super Bowl seems fitting.

FEAR THE TURTLE!

Ok, so I had to take a break from the conference championship preview to congratulate the Maryland Terps (my school) on defeating the #1 Undefeated North Carolina Tar Heels AT Chapel Hill. Go figure, a team that loses to Ohio U. and American U. at home can go on the road and beat an unbeaten #1 ranked squad. This definitely gave some hope to the Terps' tournament chances.
Congrats Terps!

AFC Conference Championship Matchup
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS (13-5) V. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (17-0)
INITIAL THOUGHT: With Philip Rivers questionable, Antonio Gates hobble and LT leaving last week's game early this game could get ugly quickly and the Pats could be on their way to another Super Bowl appearance.
SECOND THOUGHT: Perhaps if Billy Volek does start and play it could make for one of those historic backup with some ability takes over and surprises people.
X-FACTOR: Philip Rivers if he plays for San Diego, if he does not then Antonio Cromartie and how many turnovers he can cause. For New England, Laurence Maroney, if he can get going in the cold weather it could be a long day for SD.
KEY MATCHUP: The San Diego Receivers vs. The New England Secondary: If the Chargers can get a passing game going then it could be a tough game, if not it could be rough.
PREDICTION: Patriots - 24 Chargers - 21
FINAL THOUGHT: Let's be honest the Patriots are a machine, and not to mention undefeated. I think it will be a closer game, but the Pats pull out in the end at home in the cold.
I'll be back with an NFC Conference Championship Preview...

A few videos worthy of posting...
TERRELL OWENS CRYING!!
For everyone out there, especially Eagles, 49ers, and Ravens fans (basically teams T.O. has burned in the past) and basically fans of the NFL, here is an epic video of proportions for you to enjoy. After the Giants did everyone a favor and showed how much of fraud Wade Phillips is.
My favorite quote is, "I've always had a great relationship with my quarterback..." PLEASE ask Jeff Garcia and Donovan McNabb about that comment....PLEASE! Hell even ask Drew Bledsoe, who TO was ready to throw under the bus quickly when he wanted Tony out there at Q.
Oh yeah, if Hillary Clinton appeared stronger and more passionate because of her crying performance after winning the projections in New Hampshire, perhaps T.O. will look more passionate as an athlete after this display.
Moving on to my second NEW favorite video...
VOTE FOR CHRIS W. BOSH!
This video is pure genius and it definitely earned a vote from me for Chris Bosh into the All-star game. It will be almost impossible to surpass Lebron and KG to become a starter, but averaging 21.7 ppg and 9.3 rpg, I think he is worthy of an all star nod.
A few other issues of note...
* The Baltimore Ravens hired Eagles secondary and former special teams coach John Harbaugh as the successor to Brian Billick. Interesting hire here to say the least. I have personally seen what Harbaugh can do as he has been with the Eagles organization for a bit of time and I have been impressed with his talents there, however I am not quite sure how this will translate into a head coaching position. It's definitely a gamble for Baltimore and it may pay off going with a youthful coach, IF they are committed to rebuilding in key positions with youth at QB and WR among others.
* Even though the Celtics has slipped up a bit lately, I am beginning to retrack my thoughts on the Celtics not making it to the Finals (and yes since this is my blog, I can change my mind!). KG is one of the most unselfish players in NBA, and it can be said that Pierce and Allen are unselfish as well. They are getting what they need from Rajon Rondo at point and James Posey and Eddie House are the type of role players this team should be content with. My only question about the Celts is if they need a veteran point guard to backup Rondo and step up if he ever becomes hurt. Free Agent PG Gary Payton anyone?
*There are only two remaining coaching vacancies left in the NFL, the Washington Redskins and Atlanta Falcons. Obviously, the Falcons job is not very attractive and with Jason Garrett, Tony Sparano (no no not Tony Soprano) and Pete Carroll essentially out of the picture, I'm not really sure where the Falcons should look next. They better look away from any old timers such as Marty Schottenheimer and avoid knuckleheads like Mike Tice. They need a whole new attitude in there, but perhaps a GM should be hired first. Now for the Redskins, a prediction would be for them to go out there and hire some flashy name like Steve Spurrier or someone from history like Joe Gibbs, but when it comes down to it they were a playoff team, so they should go with someone who could build on the current team and not change the whole team philosophy. The solution: Gregg Williams. P.S. Norm Chow is available and I think a good offensive mind (Dolphins? Ravens? Falcons?)
* Sunday's Conference Championship games should be a lot of fun, not only for the team matchups but for the potential of the weather conditions in both games. I will check back in with predictions before kickoffs.

I come from a Land Down Under
Well Australia has been a ridiculous trip and explaining it wouldn't do it justice. I did however attend a Cricket test match between India and Australia in Sydney. Apparently a feud was developing between the teams over "racial" issues which made the match even more entertaining. The Indian squad was accused of using racial slurs against one of the Aussie players, who ended being one of their better players, in my opinion at least for what it is worth.
I went in not really understanding any of the rules and guidelines for the sport, but found myself quickly learning on the go. The thing that stuck out the most for me was that macthes can last 5 days! I attended Day 5 of the match and was there for over 3 hours and the whole time only India was up to bat. Definitely an experience and a recommendation for anyone who has a chance to experience a different sport. I, however, will continue blogging on sports most closely related to U.S. Sports.
Once I overcome this jetlag...I will be sure to discuss some of the hot topics in sports today.

Australia-Bound!
I will be taking out for Australia tomorrow until the 17th of January. Not to sure how much I will be able to "chime" im but I hope to give some thoughts on a cricket match or the tennis tourny taking place in Sydney if the opportunity is there.
I'm Just saying....
...Roger Clemens is a moron for the fact that all he has to do is deny he ever took "PEDs" or claim he only took them to recover from an injury. THERE IS NO PROOF EXCEPT HEAR-SAY!
...Johan Santana will not be traded to either New York team and I got a fever he will be headed to Boston.
...Eddie Sutton and the San Francisco hoops program is a joke. To let this guy come back as an interim coach for his 800th victory after having to retire because of a DUI is a bit odd and ridiculous.
...Tom Brady will most likely win MVP, but shouldn't Brett Favre be more deserving? A Brett Favre-less Packers team finishes 4-12.
...Mike McCarthy should win Coach of the Year. Before week 16 my vote would have gone to Romeo Crennel.
...the Tampa Bay Bucs have a legitimate shot at winning the NFC.
...the New York Giants do not.
...The Jacksonville Jaguars will be scary in the playoffs and Fred Taylor has found a second life.
...Donovan McNabb should be starting in Philadelphia next season, not Chicago, Minnesota or Miami.
...The NFL Pro Bowl is a joke and it's a joke Mario Williams, Marques Colston, and Fred Taylor did not make it and Marion Barber III did.
...Kevin Durant will be very good once he has a "NBA" body.
...The Bulls will get it together and make the playoffs.
...The Miami Heat are T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E and Shaq is cooked.
...NBA East All star starters should be Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Jason Kidd
...NBA West All star starters should be Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Carmelo Anthony
...The Celtics are legit
...The Blazers have some good players.
....The suns and warriors are the most fun teams to watch in the NBA
Off to the Land Down Under...

Quick Hits
Some quick hits and thoughts:
Bill Parcells signs to be the VP of Football Operations of the Dolphins...whatever that means...I give him 3 years MAX before he is gone.
Coaches need to learn respect in football. It appears the whole concept of a contract does not exist anymore. Bobby Petrino never had the respect of his players in Atlanta and I'm not sure he is going to succeed in Arkansas either.
The Patriots will lose 17-13 to the 'Phins this weekend....I'm just thinking outloud.
Really T.O.? You have stooped this low to go after Jessica Simpson because of Romo's terrible game on Sunday?
Yes, the Celtics are THAT good...easy schedule or not.
Chris Paul and Deron Williams will be some of the best point guards in NBA recent history.
Yes, the Heat are THAT bad...too old and to reliabe on D-Wade.
When the Blazers get Greg Oden next year, they will be scary. A rotation of LaMarcus Aldridge, Greg Oden, and Channing Frye up front with Brandon Roy scoring is nice.
The Dodgers will win the NL West this season.
The Devil Rays will not finish last in the AL East this season.
Roger Clemens is as big of a jerk as Barry Bonds.
Ed Wade is a terrible GM and has quickly traded the whole farm system of the Astros for a nut case like Valverde and a washed-up Miguel Tejada.
Ohio State will be crushed once again in the BCS Championship by another SEC team.
What has happened to the Florida State football program?

Baseball Hot Stove
*The biggest splash so far in the offseason has been the signing of Torii Hunter to the Angels for about 5 years at 90 mil. The Angels have distanced themselves as the leader in the West with some real protection now for Vladimir Guerrero. Not to mention a rotation of John Lackey, Kelvim Escobar and Jered Weaver at the start of offseason.
*The first big trade has also occurred at the Winter meetings. Miguel Cabrera AND Dontrelle Willis have reportedly been traded to the Detroit Tigers for 6 prospects, including Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller. I think this move was huge for the Tigers and has also made the AL THAT much better than the NL. Can you imagine a rotation fronted by Justin Verlander, Dontrelle Willis, Jeremy Bonderman, and Kenny Rogers...2 L's 2 R's, some power pitchers and some finesse pitching. You can't also overlook the lineup that will most likely open the season up...something that looks like this...
CF Granderson
2B Polanco
RF Ordonez
3B Cabrera
DH Sheffield
C Rodriguez
SS Renteria
1B Guillen
LF Thames/J.Jones
...I like my chances with that lineup.
There are still some good free agent options out there such as Andruw Jones and Aaron Rowand. Some intriguing low risk/high reward such as Bartolo Colon, Matt Clement. Not to mention the possibilities for trade like Erik Bedard, Danny Haren, and oh yes Johan Santana.
